When G-d first appeared to the Jewish Nation as a whole, He addressed them in a most peculiar fashion: “I am Hashem, your G-d”, using the singular version of ‘your’ in Hebrew, as opposed to the communal, which may have seemed more grammatically correct.
Our Mystics teach us, that contained in this nuance is the secret of Jewish identity: A Jew needs to be ever mindful of the fact, that G-d wants you, in the singular, to have a relationship with Him, in the way that is most meaningful for you.
